Who’s someone from your past who might not expect a note from you, but still made a lasting impression?
It could be a teacher, a neighbor, a coworker, or even someone you only crossed paths with briefly. Write to them as if they were right in front of you. What would you say if you had the chance?

We often assume people know the impact they’ve had on us. But many times, they don’t. Taking the time to write to someone — even if they’ll never read it, helps us acknowledge how others have shaped our journey. It also reminds us of the power of kindness, respect, or even a small, quirky moment.

My Life, One Story at a Time
You were the vice president of a small university where I worked in 2007. The first time we spoke, you came into the office I shared with our chef. You walked over, put your fingers in my ears (yes, really!) because you were about to say a bad word and you didn’t do that in front of ladies. It sounds odd now, but in that moment, I knew you were different.
You treated everyone with respect — from the dishwashers to the president. Not many people in that environment did. You built a beautiful family, lived with compassion, and even in your fight with cancer, you showed us strength and grace.
I’ll always consider you one of the best people I’ve ever known. The university honors you each year with a 5k run. I even tried it once and you’d laugh knowing how little I enjoy running. But for you, I did.
I hope you’re at peace now, free from pain. And if I get to see you again one day, I’ll thank you in person… just keep your fingers out of my ears this time.
