Get to know me

Hi! As you've probably seen, my name is Kari. I'm getting close to 50 years old, so my "About Me" page could take quite a while and turn into a book. So, I'll just hit some highlights to get started and then I plan to blog regularly either about old stories that I've learned from or new stories that are happening at this stage of my life, or even just random thoughts about anything and everything.

Here are some of the main points about me. You might relate to a thing or two.

  • I grew up in Ohio, and moved to Georgia for my 30th birthday, just because I needed a change

  • There was a year, from 15-16 years old, that I lived with my family on an island in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan - that place was beautiful, but so cold and boring living on a tiny island

  • In Ohio, I had a son when I was 17 years old, his dad wasn't involved, so I have been his only parent for over 31 years

  • I have pretty bad self-esteem and abandonment issues, so I've never trusted anyone, not even myself sometimes but I made it this far - still single, but doing just fine

  • I have lost loved ones far too early and it has affected me for years

  • I have a beautiful grandson and a granddaughter on the way soon

  • I have an awesome job, as an accountant for a non-profit - the best part is it is fully remote! So, I work in my jammies a lot and don't have to worry about the Atlanta traffic!

  • I love learning and always trying to add more into my brain, sometimes useless facts, but it's interesting when random things just pop into my mind - I love trivia games

  • All this learning I do seems to be more difficult because I can't seem to remember things very well anymore and I can't concentrate when reading or recall what was read until I read the same paragraph 3-4 times

  • I've recently started thinking I may have ADHD, but that has not been confirmed

  • I have hypothyroidism and recently went through menopause, and these have been confirmed

  • I enjoy writing and seems to be my best form of communication - so texts and emails are the greatest for me! I think because it gives me time to think and pick my words carefully

  • My mom lives and has always lived near me. My brother lives in NC and he watches over our dad who moved there after retirement.

  • The first pet my son and I ever had was a golden retriever named Daisy - and she was the best! She passed away right in front of my son when she was about 12 years old. Super sad day!

  • My son now has three dogs at his house and I have two dogs and two cats at mine. I like animals, but I only love mine!

  • I have two master's degrees: accounting is the first one because it's the subject I've always been in and good at; then I recently got a master's in data science because I love working with data and making it make sense to others. Both have very high earning potential, but I have pretty bad impostor syndrome and am too scared to step out and take risks to go job-hunting

I guess that's enough for now - maybe too much while I look at it, but oh well. I'll answer any questions, just email me.
