I know, you think I’m crazy with the title of this blog. But, really with imagination and time, you can make a very heartfelt gift that can fit anywhere and can be kept forever.
My grandson will be three years old in a few months, so I was trying to help show him how fun it is to create something and give gifts to the people he loves. I had some rocks in my garage that I had bought at Home Depot to use in my backyard project. So I opened the bag a grabbed about a dozen rocks. Then, painted them to have a good base for my grandson to design on. I used red, black, white and green for Christmas.
I packed up my supplies and craft rug to go to my son’s house. Then I laid down the craft rug (canvas drop cloth) in the middle of my grandson’s room and explained how all craft supplies should stay on the craft rug so no pieces got lost.
We talked while using acrylic paint pens to design dots and lines on three rocks. Then, I used wire to go around the rocks with about a foot remaining to put beads on and then curl into photo holders.
I also came prepared with three pictures I created on Canva by removing backgrounds, adding text and frames, etc. printed on cardstock. So, these were the final touches and were added to the photo holders.
In the end, my mission was complete:
1. My grandson gave each person a gift by presenting it to them and saying “Merry Christmas and I love you.” He got to see how happy they were to be getting a present FROM him and hopefully will remember getting presents is not the only part of Christmas.
2. I got to spend quality time with him doing something I enjoy: educating and creating to make people feel good.
I hope this is the start of a wonderful tradition with my grandkids. My granddaughter is still too young, but she will definitely be included in the future. Now, I’ll have to be on the lookout for new crafts every year or take them shopping to pick out gifts for the people they love.
